[tutorial] how to make kpop icon wallets

need a wallet? don’t want to spend 15-45 bucks on a wallet that you may not like? want to make a gift for your friend but don’t have the money for it? well this could (or could not be) the thing for you to try and make! it’s basically a glorified duct tape wallet but I made it cooler /trollface. people have been wanting me to sell these or teach them how to make these wallets and I’m going to teach you how!

what you’ll need

  • several pieces (2 or 3) of either colored construction paper or white printer paper
  • scissors
  • glue stick
  • a roll of clear packaging tape (the clearest you can find)
  • a dollar (or any paper currency) for reference
  • a sheet of icons of anything you want

yeehaw arts and crafts!!

okay so for the icons, you can go to photobucket or if you are a whiz at editing photos and make icons yourself, then this is easy. I go to Microsoft Word and I copy+paste icons to the document. you can fit 54 icons on one page, but if you go to Page Layout » Margins»Narrow, you can fit 63 icons on one page. or 70. nah it’s 63.

like so

in order for icons to be of equal size, they should be no more than 1.04” (that should already be pre-determined for every photo but yeah)

print out the icons, and then carefully cut them all out into squares, and that part is done.

take your paper currency and place it against a piece of paper. what ever the length of the bill is what length you want your wallet to be, but slightly longer and the width of the wallet to be slightly bigger too, by an inch. you could use a ruler by all means to help you but I never used one so to each his or her own.

like so :D

cut the paper carefully and as straight as you can.

do this again so that you’ll have two equal sized pieces of paper.

fold them in half like so

now to the fun part: gluing the icons. each row holds three icons and each face of the wallet holds nine icons. in total you’ll be using 54 icons.

do the same on the other side, trying to match up the free spaces

now on the other piece of paper, do the same thing except on both sides [note: you can do both sides on the other piece of the wallet but that’s wasted effort. when you open your wallet you’re going to see the inside of the pocket from the left, not from the right, so leave that blank] so it’ll be like this

now the most mentally taxing part: the taping. if your nails are painted you’re gonna be in a world of hurt doing this next step. now take a piece of clear packaging tape longer than the length of the wallet and cut it, then slowly, neatly, carefully, put it on the wallet, smoothing it out thoroughly so that there are no bubbles [the bubbles are a bitch okay]. all sides of the wallet must be thoroughly covered with tape.

when both sides are covered in a layer of tape, take 4 small pieces of tape and fashion them to the ends of the wallets, joining the two pieces of paper to make the near completed wallet

now take one strip of tape and cut it in half, and tape the bottom sides of the wallet together

one more pain in the ass step! the pockets. you need a place to store your ID ne? so take two pieces of tape, one longer than the other, and take the smaller piece of tape and stick it on the top of the longer piece of tape partially, then fold the smaller tape down so that it forms a piece like so

I am horrible at explaining this OTL but there should be a little space of the sticky side of the tape so that you can put it on your wallet. now repeat this step two more times.

and voila, you’ve just made yourself a wallet.

next, I’ll show you how to make this wallet

but that’s another post.

happy arts and crafts!
